Men's Soccer Takes Out Franklin & Marshall

Junior Ricky Marchant
FROSTBURG, Md. - Frostburg State used a three-goal second half to propel itself to a 3-0 shutout of Franklin & Marshall at Bobcat Stadium in men's soccer action, Wednesday evening.

Box Score

The Bobcats are now winners of back-to-back games and boast a 5-2 overall record while the Diplomats slip to 2-3 on the year.

FSU was held scoreless in the first half despite outshooting F&M 5-2. Diplomat keeper Zach Zamek kept his club in the game making three saves including two-straight saves within 20 seconds of one another in 27th minute.

The Frostburg State pressure was too much in the second half as junior Ricky Marchant (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) broke the ice and put the Bobcats on the board at 51:47. He beat an F&M defender with a through ball and slammed a shot into the side of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Franklin & Marshall appeared to come alive and put its own pressure on the FSU defense but all momentum shifted to the FSU side when the Diplomats scored an own goal in the 79th minute. The ball was passed back to Zamek who misplayed it and watched it trickle over the endline for the game's second goal.

Frostburg State, which led 15-6 in shots, put the contest away around eight minutes later when a crossing pass from junior Adam Gracia (Rockville, Md./Wootton) was poked home by sophomore Andres Vega (Potomac, Md./Wootton) for a 3-0 lead.

Bobcat keeper Jay Herford (Crofton, Md./South River) needed just two saves to pick up his fifth win and third shutout of the season.

FSU is back in action on Saturday, September 20 when it opens AMCC action with a match against Pitt-Bradford at 3:00 pm.
