FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State men's soccer squad posted its third shutout of the season with a 5-0 defeat of Shenandoah, Saturday.
Five different players scored for FSU (4-2) as the hosts tallied three goals in the first half and two in the second. The Bobcats also held a decisive edge in shots (23-9) and corners kicks (7-2).
Junior
Greg Bistany (Greenbelt, Md./St. John's College) scored the game's first goal on a header off a corner kick taken by senior
Adam Gracia (Rockville, Md./Wootton). Less than 40 seconds later, sophomore
Mike Pistorio (Bel Air, Md./Harford Technical) netted his first goal of the season off a pass from
Ricky Marchant (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) as the Bobcats surged ahead 2-0.
Marchant had his hand in the final goal of the first half when he assisted junior
Sean Jones (Pasadena, Md./Severna Park) at 30:42.
Gracia grabbed the team lead in goals when he tallied his fourth of the season just 21 seconds into the second period. The game's final score came in the 63rd minute when junior
Steven Jacobsen (Waldorf, Md./West Lake) slipped a shot below the outstretched arms of the Hornet keeper. Sophomore
Andres Vega (Potomac, Md./Wootton) was given credit for an assist on the final goal.
Senior keeper
Jay Herford (Crofton, Md./South River) made five saves in the win in just under 80 minutes action. Freshman
Tyler Miller (Frostburg, Md./Mt. Ridge) played the final 19:21 without seeing a shot. Arman Bozorgmanesh took the loss in goal for SU allowing all five goals and stopping six shots.
FSU is back in action on Wednesday, September 17 when it hosts Franklin & Marshall at 7:00 pm.
