HOBOKEN, N.J. - The Frostburg State volleyball team picked up a pair of wins on the opening night of the Ducks Classic on the campus of Stevens Tech, Friday evening, pushing its winning streak to four games.
FSU is now 11-1 overall on the season with a 3-2 win over Gallaudet and a 3-0 shutout of MIT.
In the win over Gallaudet, the Bobcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead with wins of 25-15 and 25-21. The Bison rallied by winning the next two games 25-23 and 27-25 to even the match at 2-2. However, FSU ran away to a 15-8 win in the fifth game.
Freshman
Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) handed out 47 assists, junior
Brooke Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) led with 18 kills and sophomore
Rachel Burke (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) paced the team with 16 digs. Winterling also turned in six digs and two service aces.
Sophomore
Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md. /Southern Garrett) recorded 12 kills and six digs while classmate
Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) had eight kills and 13 digs.
The win over MIT proved less stressful as FSU won in straight sets 25-19, 25-18 and 25-14.
Carrington again led in assists with 34, Winterling paced the squad with 12 kills and Burke had 13 digs. Stephens had 11 kills and four digs while Thomas recorded seven kills and four digs. Junior
Chelsea Wassell (Westernport, Md./Southern Garrett) also added four kills and three blocks.
The Bobcats return to action at the Ducks Classic when they face Haverford at 11:00 am on Saturday morning.
