Six Former Athletes Selected to Frostburg State Hall of Fame

FROSTBURG, Md. — Frostburg State University will induct six new members into the Bobcat Athletics Hall of Fame at its annual dinner and induction ceremony on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 as part of the Homecoming Weekend Festivities. With the addition of these six individuals, FSU’s Hall of Fame now has 155 members.

The inductees will also be recognized before the Homecoming football game against Wesley on Saturday, October 4 at 1:00 pm.

Two football, two track & field, one women's basketball/women's tennis and a women's lacrosse player make up this year's class.

Kristie Delbrugge
1985-1989
Women’s Basketball & Women’s Tennis


Kristie Delbrugge was an outstanding two-sport athlete for Frostburg State University in the mid to late 1980’s. She was a four-year letter winner and point guard for the Bobcat women’s basketball team and a two-year letter winner for the women’s tennis team.

During her career, she helped the Bobcat basketball team to a 71-38 overall record and two Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships in 1986 and 1988.

Delbrugge proved herself as one of the top point guards in school history as she left her mark all across the Frostburg State record books. She holds the program’s all-time mark in assists with 832, averaging an incredible 208 per season. She also holds three of the top four single-season assist records. As a senior, Delbrugge led the nation with 273 assists.

Delbrugge also lays claim to 12 of the top 13 single-game assists records including a school record 20 against Shenandoah in 1989.

As a women’s tennis player, Delbrugge posted a 22-4 overall singles record and combined for an 18-8 doubles mark. She was the ESAC singles champion in the 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons and was doubles champion in 1989-90.

To wrap up her career as a senior, Delbrugge was named Frostburg State’s Female Athlete of the Year. 





Joe Holland
1991-1994
Football

Joe Holland is one of the best defensive lineman to play for the Frostburg State football program throughout its 46-year history.

During his four-year career, Holland helped the Bobcats to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance and victory in 1993, an ECAC Southeast Championship (’91) and an ECAC Southeast runner-up finish (’94).

As a senior, Holland was named a Coaches’ First Team All-American (formally Kodak All-American) and was a College Football Preview Magazine Pre-Season All-American. He recorded 67 total tackles, four for loss with one pass breakup. The Bobcats posted an 8-2-1 overall record on their way to an ECAC Southwest runner-up finish.

During his junior year, Frostburg State had arguably its best season in school history. The squad finished 10-2 and NCAA Tournament quarterfinalists after defeating Wilkes in the opening round, 26-25. Holland made 72 total tackles and led the team in both sacks (3) and tackles for loss (9).

Over his first two seasons, Holland combined to make 57 total tackles, three sacks, two pass breakups, a tackle for loss and a forced fumble. As a freshman, FSU earned its first-ever championship after downing William Patterson, 46-16, in the ECAC Southeast final.





Vicki Avey
1987-1990
Women’s Track & Field

Vicki Avey enters the Frostburg State Hall of Fame as a four-year letter winner as a distance runner for the women’s track and field team. She was a two-time All-Eastern College Athletic Conference selection, five-time Mason-Dixon Conference Champion and school record holder in five events.

She holds three individual school records: both the 3,000-meter indoor (10:22.15) and the 3,000-meter outdoor (10:25.00) and the 5,000-meter indoor (18:24.49). She also holds school records in two relays; the 4x800-meter relay (10:08.00) and the distance medley relay (12:46.00).

In her senior season, Avey was an All-Mason-Dixon Conference selection during the outdoor season and voted as Frostburg State’s Most Outstanding Runner.

She captured All-ECAC honors in the 5,000-meter run as a junior as well as All-Mason-Dixon Conference honors in both the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter runs. She also broke two of her own school records in the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs.

As a sophomore, Avey again earned All-ECAC and All-Mason-Dixon Conference honors, this time in the 3,000-meter run.

Avey had an outstanding freshman year setting three school records. She captured the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs in the outdoor season and set the 3,000-meter record in the indoor season.



 


Linda Moscato
1990-1993
Women’s Lacrosse

Linda Moscato ended her Frostburg State women’s lacrosse career as one of the most prolific scorers in the program’s 43-year history. A four-year letter winner from 1990-93, Mosocato scored 192 goals, 57 assists and 237 total points.

Moscato collected numerous individual honors for her stellar play on the field. She was a USWLA First Team All-American, two-time Brine/Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association South Regional All-America, team Most Valuable Player and a North/South Regional All-Star Game participant.

She also helped the Bobcats to their most successful four-year run with a 47-14 overall record. As a sophomore in 1991, FSU posted a school record 15-1 mark and earned the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship with a victory over Mary Washington.

As a junior, Moscato posted career numbers as she scored 54 goals and handed out 22 assists. She was voted as the teams’ Most Outstanding Attack Player while helping the Bobcats to their first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament berth. Frostburg State finished the season ranked No. 4 in the final NCAA Division III poll, the schools highest ranking ever.

In her senior year, Moscato was voted as the team’s Most Valuable Player as she scored 46 goals, 19 assists and 65 points. The Bobcats once again captured an ECAC Championship with a 9-5 overall record.



 


Ron Wallace
1992-1996
Football

Ron Wallace was a two-time All-American and one of the best secondary players in Frostburg State football history. A three-year letter winner, Wallace helped the Bobcats rank among some the nation’s best defensive units throughout his career.

Wallace saved his best season for his senior year as he was named an AFCA Division III All-American at the defensive back position, a preseason All-American by College Football Preview while helping the Bobcats capture the Eastern College Athletic Conference Southwest Championship.

Wallace started all 11 games in his final year, making 35 total tackles while leading the team with seven interceptions, including a 45-yard pick for a touchdown. He was also a valuable special teams player as he returned six punts for 152 yards and two touchdowns.

As a junior, Wallace was selected as an Honorable Mention Hewlett-Packard All-American after making a career-high 72 total tackles with a forced fumble and a team-leading six interceptions for 46 yards and 17 pass break ups.

As a sophomore, Wallace helped Frostburg State to a runner-up finish in the ECAC Southeast Championship Game. He appeared in 10 games with six interceptions, for 109 yards and one touchdown. He was sixth on the team with 50 total tackles and was third with five pass breakups.

In his first year, he helped the Bobcats to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance and victory with a 26-25 win over Wilkes in the opening round.





Tracy Wrenn
1989-1991
Track & Field

Tracy Wrenn was a three-year letter winner and two-time All-American for the Frostburg State women’s track and field teams.

Wrenn, who transferred to FSU as a sophomore, made an immediate impact on the team after being named an All-American in her first season. She captured All-American honors, an ECAC Championship and set the school record (4:37.60) in the 1,500-meter run in the outdoor season. Wrenn was also an NCAA National qualifier in the 800-meter run.

In the indoor season, she earned All-Mason-Dixon Conference honors in the 1,500-meter run and set the school record in the same event (4:50.2). Both school records are still intact at the time of her induction.

As a junior, she was voted as FSU’s Most Outstanding Runner. She was an NCAA qualifier and All-ECAC performer in the 1,500-meter run. She captured Mason-Dixon Conference Championships in both the 800 and 1,500-meter runs.

In her senior year, Wrenn earned All-American honors for the second time in her career, this time in the 800-meter run. She earned Mason-Dixon Conference Championships in both the 800-meter and 1,500-meter runs, was the conference’s Most Valuable Performer and was named FSU’s Most Outstanding Runner for the second-consecutive year.
