NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Frostburg State freshman quarterback
Josh Volpe (Germantown, Md./Northwest) saw his first action of the season this past Saturday and was awarded the Atlantic Central Football Conference's Rookie of the Week honor for his effort, on Monday.
The Bobcats (3-6, 1-2) ended their season on Saturday with a 55-14 loss to No. 23 ranked and in-state rival Salisbury in the Tenth Annual Regents' Cup.
Volpe, who played the entire second half, was 9-of-12 for 156 yards and two touchdowns. On the team's first drive of the third quarter, Volpe was a perfect 4-for-4 for 62 yards, including a three-yard scoring toss to freshman fullback
Derek Sheely (Germantown, Md./Northwest). On the second drive, Volpe threw for 38 more yards and plunged in from a yard out for his second score of the contest.
FSU junior wideout
Makiha Cooper (Baltimore, Md./Forest Park) picked up honorable mention offensive player of the week honors. The Mike McGlinchey Most Oustanding Player for FSU in the loss to Salisbury, caught six passes for 100 yards and returned four kickoffs for 107 yards.
