WAYNESBURG, Pa. - The Frostburg State women's cross country team captured 14th place while the men placed 30th at the NCAA Divison III Mideast Regional meet, on Saturday.
This is the women's highest finish at regionals since 1999 when they finished 11th. John Hopkins captured first for the women while Caregie Mellon took home the title for the men.
In the 6,000-meters, senior
Jennifer Patton (Barton, Md./Westmar) led the women's team with a 30th place finish with a time of 23:34. With this finish, Patton earned All-Region honors which are given to the top 35 runners at the meet.
Coming in second for the Bobcats was freshman
Anne Patron (Baltimore, Md./Dulaney), who captured 43rd (23:57). Patron just missed earning freshman honors by one spot as she was the eighth freshman to finish.
Junior
Christina Aumand (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Huntingtown) placed third for the Bobcats while classmate
Gwen Massey (Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford) finished fourth. Overall, Aumand captured 108th place (25:18) and Massey placed 127th (25:32).
Rounding out the top five for FSU was sophomore Jessica O'Neil (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) finishing 169th (26:19).
In the 8,000-meters for the men, freshman
Gavin Caupp (Frostburg, Md./Mt. Ridge) captured 64th with a time of 27:08. Caupp was the 11th freshman to finish in the meet.
Junior
Dustin Eagle (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) placed 149th (28:26) and freshman
Nick Weddle (Balitmore, Md./Northeast) finished 173rd (28:55).
Sophomore
Kevin Wright (Silver Spring, Md./Oakton) finished 190th (29:19) and freshman
Eric Foti (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) captured 252nd (31:12).
The Bobcats were hindered as senior
Brian Leiter (New Windsor, Md./Francis Scott Key) fell ill during the competition and finished 255th (31:27).
