Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) and freshman Kyle Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) all earned a spot on the 2008 All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Volleyball team, released Tuesday.
Frostburg State finished the season 29-5 overall and earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight season on Monday. The Bobcats face No. 4 ranked Washington-St. Louis in the first round of the tournament on Thursday at 3:30 pm.
Winterling accented a solid year by being named the AMCC's Player of the Year and earning a spot on the league's first-team for the third-straight season. Winterling, a four-time AMCC Player of the Week this year alone, is ranked 11th in nation in kills per set (4.39) and leads the conference and team in kills (513).
The All-AMCC honor is just one of numerous awards on the season for the All-American candidate. Last week, she received ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District third team honors, was named an ECAC Player of the Week and AMCC Pre-Season Player of the Year earlier this season and opened the 2008 fall campaign with four-straight all-tournament team awards as she helped FSU open the season 12-2.
Carrington, AMCC Co-Newcomer of the Year and second-team All-AMCC selection, made an immediate impact on the Bobcats this fall as she led the AMCC in assists (1,132) and is ranked 41st in country in assists per game (9.84). She is ranked fourth all-time in school history in a single-season in assists in just her first year with the club.
Rounding out the All-AMCC award winners for the Bobcats is. Stephens, a 2008 first-team selection, takes home her first all-conference award after ranking third in the AMCC in kills (333), fourth in kills per game (2.90) and ninth in hitting percentage (.235). She is also fourth on the Bobcats in digs (238) and fifth in service aces (40).
