Gracia Scores Only Goal; Leads Men's Soccer Past La Roche 1-0

Senior Adam Gracia
FROSTBURG, Md. - Senior Adam Gracia (Rockville, Md./Wootton) netted the games only goal and Frostburg State wrapped up its regular-season with a 1-0 shutout of AMCC opponent La Roche on a cold and windy Tuesday evening at Bobcat Stadium.

Box Score

The hard-earned win gave the Bobcats a 13-3-1 overall record and a 7-1-1 conference mark. The victory handed head coach Keith Byrnes his most wins in a season during his seven years at FSU, gave the Bobcats the No. 2 seed and a first round bye in the 2008 AMCC Tournament and ensured a seventh-straight trip to the conference tournament semifinals.

Frostburg State will face the winner of the No. 6 Pitt-Bradford/No. 3 Penn State Behrend match on Wednesday, Nov. 5 in the tournament semifinals.

FSU, which has collected a four-game winning streak over the Redhawks, battled light snow and windy conditions to post its eight shutout of the season and second in a row.

Gracia's tally, a hard hit ball that found the upper left corner of the net, came in the 23rd minute of action off a pass from freshman Jamie Flewellyn (Arnold, Md./Broadneck).

Frostburg State led in shots 21-8 and senior Jay Herford (Crofton, Md./South River) stopped two LAR (10-9, 5-4) shots to earn the victory. Jonathan Happel made seven saves in the loss for La Roche.
