ASHLAND, Va. - Zak Thornton ran for 256 of his team's 260 total rushing yards and Randolph Macon handed Frostburg State a 21-12 loss in collegiate football action, on a wet Saturday afternoon.
Box Score
Because of the wet and sloppy conditions, neither team was able to pass the ball with great efficiency forcing the ground games to make the biggest impact on the outcome. The Yellow Jackets (3-4) won the battle on the ground as they amassed season-highs in yards (260), carries (50), and rushing touchdowns (2).
Thornton finished with 45 carries and two touchdowns including the game's only touchdown in the first half. His second score pushed a slim RMC lead (7-6) to a 14-6 edge with 14:29 to play in the fourth quarter.
It took both offenses much of the first half to get on track as Randolph Macon scored the only touchdown of the first two quarters with 3:07 to play in the opening half. Thornton found the endzone from 20 yards out on the only play of RMC's sixth drive of the first half that capitalized on Bobcat a interception.
Frostburg State got on the board on its second possession of the third quarter. Junior quarterback
Bryan Brosnan (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) scored his first career rushing touchdown and capped ther game's longest drive (14 plays and 85 yards) as he scored from seven yards out to cut into the RMC lead, 7-6. The extra point snap was mishandled and the conversion was no good as the Bobcats trailed 7-6.
On the enusing drive, Thornton scored his second touchdown of the game as he extended the host lead (14-6). Thornton, who ran for 155 yards in the second half, pushed his way into the endzone from a yard out to cap a six play/68 yard drive at 14:29.
The Yellow Jackets added an insurance touchdown on their next drive to extend their lead to 21-6. The drive covered 70 yards on nine plays, six Thornton runs, as Austin Faulkner found Alex Ramirez for a four-yard scoring pass with just 4:57 to play.
The Bobcat defense forced a Thornton fumble late in the fourth quarter deep inside Randolph Macon territory to give the offense a chance to cut into the deficit. Three plays later, sophomore
Anton Wade (Baltimore, Md./Patterson) scored his fifth rushing touchdown of the season from two yards out as the Bobcats brought the score to 21-12. FSU went for two but a Brosnan pass attempt sailed high and Randolph Macon ran out clock on its final drive to end the contest.
Brosnan finished the day 11-of-23 for 124 yards and an interception and Wade led the ground game with 23 carries for 95 yards and one touchdown.
Freshman Kevin Mathews (Temple Hills, Md./Oxon Hill) made a career-high 11 total tackles with one TFL and an interception. Freshman

Rashad James (Washington, Md./Anacostia) had five tackles, 1 forced and recovered fumble and a pass breakup.
