FROSTBURG, Md. - Senior
Adam Gracia (Rockville, Md./Wootton) and junior
Ricky Marchant (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) each scored a goal and Frostburg State held off a late Penn State Behrend rally as the Bobcats downed the AMCC rival 2-1, Saturday.
The Bobcats, ranked ninth in the Mid-Atlantic region, are 11-3-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the conference while the Lions are now 9-6 and 5-1.
Marchant scored his seventh goal of the season in the 11th minute as FSU took a 1-0 lead. PSB goalkeeper Dustin Walker was out of position when sophomore Mike Pistorio (Bel Air, Md./Harford Technical) passed the ball across the top of the 18-yard box to Marchant who found the open net.
The Lions led 3-2 in shots in the first half but failed to find the net.
The second proved to be more physical as the half had 25 fouls and five yellow cards. Gracia scored off an indirect free kick in the 61st minute as FSU took a 2-1 lead. Junior
Sean Jones (Pasadena, Md./Severna Park) was given credit for the assist.
The Lions, despite having two players ejected and playing with just nine eligible players after 61st minute, narrowed the gap to 2-1 in the 81st minute when Brian Bodnar found the net off a rebounded shot.
Penn State Behrend, which led 9-5 in second half shots, attempted three more shots in the final 10 minutes but Bobcat senior keeper
Jay Herford (Crofton, Md./South River) made two saves and helped preserve the lead until the final horn.
Herford finished with five total saves in the win while Walker made two saves in the loss.
FSU returns to action next Saturday when it travels to Mt. Aloysius at 3:00 pm.
