ALTOONA, Pa. - Despite two overtimes, neither Frostburg State nor Penn State Altoona could find the net as the two teams battled to a 0-0 tie in AMCC men's soccer action, Tuesday evening.
The Bobcats, who entered the contest ranked ninth in the NSCAA/adidas Mid-Atlantic regional poll, are 10-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the AMCC. The Lions are just 4-7-4 but 4-1-1 in the conference.
PSA led the game in shots 14-11, including a 3-0 edge in the second overtime. However, both teams had solid chances to get on the board.
FSU's best attempt came in the 97th minute when junior Steven Jacobsen (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) crushed a shot from the top of the 18-yard box that hit the cross bar and was cleared out by the Lion defense. The Lions' best chance came with just one second left in the second overtime. Richard Hopewell connected on a header off a corner kick that FSU keeper Jay Herford (Crofton, Md./South River) saved to keep the tie in tact.
Herford made three saves in 110 minutes of action while picking up his fifth shutout of the season.
FSU returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Penn State Behrend at 3:00 pm at Bobcat Stadium.
