Softball Sweeps Hilbert In AMCC Action

HAMBURG, N.Y. - The Frostburg State softball teammanufactured 18 total runs in two games, to sweep the doubleheader from Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Hilbert, Sunday afternoon.

FSU (12-14, 9-3) won game one 10-4 and then shut out HC (3-25, 1-13) 8-0 in six innings, in the nightcap.

Senior Lori Potts (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) went the distance in game one, striking out eight and allowing just one earned run.

The Bobcats jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first and then put up another three runs in the second inning, before being shut out in the third. The Hawks rallied, tallying one run in each of the second and third innings, bringing the score to 6-2 through four innings of action.

Frostburg State would put the game out of reach, with four runs in the fifth, while Hilbert tacked on just two.

Junior Lindsay Seal (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore (Frederick CC)) and Potts each went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, while freshman Amber Macintosh (Point of Rocks, Md./Brunswick) went 2-for-2 and classmate Samantha Quirin (Lovettsville, Va./Loudoun Valley) went 2-for-3.

In the second game, freshman Katelyn Coffey (Middletown, Md./Middletown) pitched a one-hitter in 6.0 innings of action.

FSU would again take an early lead, tacking on two runs in the first, followed by one run in the second.

In the fifth, Frostburg State would score two more and then add another three runs in the bottom of the sixth, to end the game early, in favor of the Bobcats 8-0.

Junior Amanda Baldwin (Baltimore, Md./North County) went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and three RBIs, while senior Amanda Griswold (Rockville, Md./Magruder) was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Macintosh went 2-for-4.

The Bobcats return to the field on April 25 when they travel to AMCC opponent Pitt-Greensburg at 3:00 pm for a doubleheader.
