SWARTHMORE, Pa. - For the third-consecutive game, the Frostburg State men's soccer team found itself in an overtime frame but ended up on the wrong end in the ECAC South Region Championship with a 3-2 setback to Swarthmore, Sunday.
FSU (12-9-1) had won the first two games of the tournament in overtime; 3-2 over Carnegie Mellon and 2-1 against Penn State Altoona.
Top seed and host Swarthmore (14-3-3) rallied twice in the game against the Bobcats and Stu Leon scored his first goal of the season at the best possible time, 1:53 into overtime, to earn the win.
FSU was outshot 20-12 by the Garnet but the Bobcats made the most of their opportunities holding two leads during the match.
Senior
Kenny Dotter (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) scored for the third-straight game to put Frostburg State ahead 1-0 just under five minutes until halftime. Evan Nesterak netted a shot in the 73rd minute off a pass from Morgan Langley to even the game for the Garnet at 1-1.
FSU freshman
Andres Vega (Potomac, Md./Wootton) recaptured the lead for Bobcats with his second goal of the season at 82:25. The lead lasted just five minutes as Brendan Grady scored from 15 yards out with just 1:30 left in regulation to tie the contest and send it into overtime.
In the extra period, Leon netted a shot from 25 yards out to give Swarthmore the championship.
Junior
Jay Herford (Crofton, Md./South River) stopped two shots while Garnet keeper Ryan Sutcliffe made three.
The Bobcats last made the ECAC Championship in 1996, falling to Grove City 3-1.
