Men's Soccer Stalls Against Penn State Altoona

Junior Adam Gracia
FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State men's soccer team gave a great performance but fell 2-1 in a rain delayed match as they battled Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference leader Penn State Altoona, Tuesday night at Bobcat Stadium.

After an hour rain delay both teams came out trading blows from the beginning whistle. FSU (6-6-1, 2-2-1) controlled possession for much of the first half with Penn State Altoona (12-2, 6-0) relying on five saves by keeper Brandon McQuillen to keep the Bobcats off the board.

The stalemate was finally broken when the Lion's leading scorer Bryan Pierzga placed a header into the upper left corner of the goal at the 38:46 mark.

Frostburg State rebounded in the second half when junior Adam Gracia (Rockville, Md./Thomas Wootton) split two defenders and blasted a shot into the PSA goal with 13 minutes remaining.

Both teams stepped up the pace of the game trying to break the tie as time wound down. With nine minutes remaining, JC Campbell provided the winning goal for Altoona shooting through traffic in front of the FSU net. The Lions outshot Frostburg State 15-11 in the match.

Frostburg State returns to action at Penn State Behrend on Saturday, October 13 at 7:00 pm.
