FARMVILLE, Va. — The Frostburg State field hockey team lost its season-opening game to Lynchburg College, 3-2, Sunday afternoon.
FSU falls to 0-1 while LC earned its first win of the season to even its record 1-1.
The Bobcats opened the scoring when freshman Kelly Filipowicz (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) netted her first career goal at the 25 minute mark.
Five minutes later, senior Amanda Griswold (Rockville, Md./Magruder) gave the visitors a 2-0 lead when she slipped a shot past the Hornet goalkeeper.
Laura Christianson got Lynchburg on the board in the 30th minute with a goal as the teams headed into intermission with the score in FSU's favor, 2-1.
Samantha Howard tied the game and later gave LC the lead when she scored back-to-back goals in the 33rd and 43rd minutes.
Sophomore keeper Amanda Runion (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) started the game for the Bobcats making eight saves and junior Jessica Brittingham (Pocomoke, Md./Pocomoke) made six saves while playing the second half.
FSU returns to action tomorrow when it travels to Johns Hopkins at noon.
