St. Mary’s Downs Field Hockey, 3-1

ST. MARY’S, Md. – Three different players scored for St. Mary’s at it defeated Frostburg State, 3-1, Sunday afternoon.

The Seahawks (6-2) outshot the Bobcats (3-7) in the first half, 9-3, but SMC was unable to get on the board until the 28th minute when Kaitlin Anderson scored off an assist from Amanda Bramble.

Junior goalie Amanda Runion (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) kept FSU in the game in the first period making six saves.

Marianne Wood gave St. Mary’s a 2-0 lead when she scored an unassisted goal just 1:42 into the second stanza. The hosts continued the pressure and netted their third goal of the contest at 47:02. Alison Femi scored off a pass from Emily Norris.

FSU started to build momentum with 20 minutes left in the game, registering three-straight shots including two penalty corners.

The Bobcats finally got on the board in the 61st minute when Kelly Filipowicz (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) scored off a feed from freshman Sammy Stalter (La Plata, Md./La Plata).

Frostburg State held the advantage in shots in the second half, 6-5, including a 4-1 edge in penalty corners.

Runion suffered the loss making eight saves while Emily Richards earned the win for St. Mary’s stopping two shots.

FSU is back in action on Sunday, October 1 at Virginia Wesleyan at Noon.
