Men's Soccer Loses to Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, Md. – Johns Hopkins fell behind, but scored two-straight goals to rally past the Frostburg State men’s soccer team, 2-1, Wednesday afternoon at Homewood Field.

Sophomore Gregg Laskow (Plainsboro, N.J./WWP-North) put the Bobcats (1-4) on the board first with a score in the 36th minute. After intercepting a pass and dribbling towards the goal, Laskow took a shot that slipped past the Hopkins keeper, Danny Coble, on the lower right side.

JHU answered at 41:33, tying the game at 1-1. David Roundtree scored on a pass centered by Malcolm Stewart.

Senior goalie Derek Richardson (New Windsor, Md./Linganore) charged out of the net, but Roundtree managed to sneak the ball underneath his reach and into the goal.

The Blue Jays took the lead in the 66th minute on a goal by Nate Ford. Ben McAbee drew the Bobcat defense towards him before centering the ball to Ford.

Ford hit a shot into the lower left corner of the net for what proved to be the game winner.

Richardson had five saves while Coble made three. JHU held the advantage in shots 11-9.

"We played our best soccer of the season so far, unfortunately, we didn't get the result we wanted," said Head Coach Keith Byrnes. "We made some lineup changes that gave our guys a spark and created some great opportunities. Johns Hopkins is a good team and I am happy with our level of play."

The Bobcats return to action on Saturday when they host Albright at 6:00 pm.
