Lacrosse Ends Losing Skid with Win Over York

YORK, PA — Sophomore Lindsay Lamont (Sykesville, Md./Century) netted five goals to lead the Frostburg State lacrosse team to a 17-10 victory over hosts York (Pa.) Thursday afternoon.

The Spartans(6-11) took an early 4-0 lead just nine minutes into action. Senior Stefanie Ritz (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) put the Bobcats (6-10) on the board with an unassisted goal with one of her four goals.

Three FSU goals, two from Lamont and one from junior Tina Trent (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright), brought the score within 5-4 in favor of the hosts.

YC would score one goal to maintain its lead. Last-minute goals from Lamont and Ritz tied the game 6-6 at intermission.

York opened the second half with three goals to regain the lead, 9-6. Frostburg State tied the game for the second time with goals from freshman Holly Reidt (Freeland, Md./Hereford (Essex CC)), junior Ashley Mattison (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and Lamont with 20:37 left to play.

Ritz netted the ball on a free position shot to give FSU the lead for the first time (10-9) with just over 15 minutes left in the game.

The Seahawks would score just one basket before the Bobcats took over and banked seven scores for the win.

Sophomore Carly Rihard (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) added two goals, while classmate Maria Schrum (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and freshmen Meredith Martin (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) and Danielle Merson (Fallston, Md./Fallston) netted one score apiece.

Freshman Bobcat keeper Erin Morrell (Easton, Md./Easton) picked up 9 saves and the win.

FSU returns to action on Saturday May 6, as it hosts St. Mary’s College of Maryland for the last game of the season beginning at 2:00 pm.
