PAINESVILLE, Ohio - The Frostburg State softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against Lake Erie Saturday afternoon at Hitchcock Field.
Freshman Lydia Ratliff (Brandywine, Md./Grace Brethern) hit her first homerun at FSU (15-11, 9-3 AMCC) in game one but the visitors lost, 2-1. In game two, LEC used an eight-run second inning to win 11-2 in five innings.
Ratliff’s homer gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning. However, the Storm tied the game in the home half of the inning and scored the go-ahead run in the sixth.
Senior pitcher Jen Cook (Cresaptown, Md./Allegany) threw 6.0 innings allowing two runs on three hits while striking out five. She suffered just her third loss of the spring.
Senior Bethany Seyler (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) and sophomore Amanda Baldwin (Baltimore, Md./North County) were both 2-for-3 while Ratliff was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored on the homer.
In the nightcap, the Storm opened a 8-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. The Bobcats scored one run in the top of the third, but LEC scored two in the bottom of the third and one in the fourth to take an 11-1 lead. Frostburg State managed a run in the fifth before the game came to a close.
Seyler suffered the loss throwing 1.1 innings, allowing five runs on five hits. At the plate, she recorded the lone Bobcat RBI during the contest.
FSU returns to action tomorrow when its hosts Pitt-Bradford for doubleheader at 1:00 pm.
