Baseball Splits with Centenary

RUTHER GLEN, Va. - The Frostburg State baseball team split a doubleheader with Centenary Sunday afternoon at the Virginia Sports Complex in Ruther Glen, Va.

The Bobcats are 4-4 on the season while the Cyclones open the season at 1-1.

FSU took game one, 3-2, thanks to a tie-breaking wild pitch that scored sophomore Andrew Speights (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Speights powered Frostburg State at the plate going 2-for-3 while scoring two runs. Junior Ryan Webb (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) was 1-for-2 with a homerun and a run scored and teammate Rob Comerford (Herndon, Va./Oakton (Garrett College)) was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Bobcat senior starter Billye Hollister (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) picked up his second win of the season lasting 6.2 innings allowing just two runs on seven hits while striking out nine.

In game two, junior Chris Jones (Baltimore, Md./Towson) crossed the plate in the first inning to give FSU an early 1-0 lead.

However, Centenary tied the game in the fourth and took a 5-1 advantage in the sixth after scoring four runs.

Sophomore Jordan Crystal (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst (Monmouth)) pitched six innings allowing five runs on seven hits suffering his second loss of the season.

Frostburg State returns to action Saturday, March 11 with a doubleheader at SUNY-Farmingdale at 1:00 pm.
