CRESSON, Pa. — The Frostburg State baseball team swept an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Mt. Aloysius Wednesday afternoon. The Bobcats took game one, 10-2, and won game two, 4-3.
FSU improves to 10-8 overall and 3-0 in the AMCC while the Mounties fall to 2-7-1 overall and 0-2 in conference action.
In the opener, the Bobcats scored twice in each of the first three innings to spark the easy win. Sophomore Arthur Barone (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y./Spring Valley) went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, while senior Justin Wilt (Knoxville, Md./Brunswick) added a double and two RBIs as well.
Junior Billye Hollister (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) held the Mounties to three hits and one run while striking out five over five innings. He won his fourth straight start to improve to 4-1 on the year.
In the nightcap, FSU scored two runs in the first and another in the third to take a 3-0 lead before Mt. Aloysius tallied single runs in the fourth and fifth inings to pull to within one.
The Bobcats plated another run in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead, but the Mounties pulled to within one again in the bottom of the seventh before FSU junior closer Collin Bednar (Salisbury, Md./Glen Burnie) shut the door for his second save of the year.
Sophomore Ryan Webb (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) had two of FSU's five hits.
Senior Dan Lindner (Cumberland, Md./Allegany> allowed just three hits and two runs while striking out seven in six innings to get the win and improve to 3-1.
