BETHANY, WV — Frostburg State lost its first game of the season, 70-67, in a hard-fought game at host Bethany (WV) Tuesday night.
The Bobcats (5-1) led by as many as 11, 15-4, just seven minutes into the game on three baskets from junior Krystin Hargrove (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook). The Bison (3-6) would battle back outscoring FSU 16-4 over the next four minutes, to take a 20-19 lead with 9:19 remaining in the first half.
Hargrove would then hit a three-pointer with 6:20 remaining to give the Bobcats the lead for good in the first half, 23-22. Junior Tracie George (Windber, Pa./Windber) would score six points down the stretch to give Frostburg State a 35-30 lead at the half.
FSU would maintain a slim lead for most of the second half before Bethany took its first lead, 64-63, with 2:39 remaining in the game. The Bobcats had several chances to tie the game but came up short as Bethany would make its final two free throws with eight seconds remaining in the game to seal the victory.
Hargorve led FSU with 24 points while George added 17 points. Senior Stephanie Watts (Baltimore, Md./North County) led the team with nine rebounds, seven steals and four assists while adding 12 points.
The Bobcats return to action Friday when they play Hood College at 6:00 p.m. in the Scranton University Diversified Invitational at Scranton University.
