Men's Soccer Falls to Pitt-Greensburg in Battle of AMCC Unbeatens

FROSTBURG, MD — Pitt-Greensburg scored three goals in a span of under eight minutes of the second half, including the final two just 40 seconds apart, to earn a 4-1 victory over host Frostburg State in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match Tuesday afternoon.

UPG improved to 7-4-1 overall and moved into sole possession of first place in the AMCC at 4-0, while FSU had its season-high four-game winning streak snapped and fell to 7-4-1 overall and 3-1 in league play.

UPG struck just four minutes into the contest when Justin Innocent converted a penalty kick after FSU was whistled for a hand ball in the box.

FSU, playing without three starters due to injury, pulled even in the 26th minute when freshman Trevor Havey (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) headed in a corner kick off the foot of junior Matt Moffa (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech).

Havey has now scored a goal in each of FSU’s last five games.

UPG had a chance to take the lead again in the 35th minute, but FSU sophomore Derek Richardson (New Windsor, Md./Linganore) dove and punched away a free kick by Dave Tintera to keep the game tied at the half.

UPG moved in front for good on a goal by Adam Zeleznick in the 54th minute, and Tintera gathered a miskick and sent it into the net to give UPG a 3-1 lead in the 62nd minute.

Just 40 seconds later, Mike Mount knocked in a loose ball inside the six to complete the scoring.

Frostburg State returns to action Saturday when it visits Hilbert in another AMCC match beginning at 3:00 pm.
