FROSTBURG, Md. – The Israel Lacrosse Association has recently announced that former Frostburg State University women’s lacrosse player Davia Procida has been selected to the first-ever Israeli Women’s Lacrosse National Team that will be competing at the 2013 World Cup this July.
The Israeli team, which will competing against 18 countries, including the USA, is comprised of nine players from the United States and nine players from Israel. The roster was selected after a series of tryouts at HaYarkon Sportek in Tel Aviv and the Peddie School in Hightown, N.J.
Procida was a four-year starter for the Bobcat women’s lacrosse team from 2007-10. A two-time Jewish Sports Review All-American, Procida helped FSU to 29 wins and an appearance in the 2010 ECAC Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament. As a sophomore, she was 32nd in NCAA Division III in ground balls (4.06) and was 38th in caused turnovers (2.0).
Her selection to the Israeli team will not be her first time competing overseas as she represented the United States in international competition in England and Ireland as part of the American International Sports Teams (ASIT) in the summer of 2009.
The Israeli team will train July 1-7 in Ashelon, Israel, before flying as a team to Toronto on July 8. The team open competition on July 11 with a game against No. 10 Germany, before meeting No. 8 Scotland and No. 16 South Korea to wrap up pool play.
The Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) will host the World Cup this summer in Oshawa, Canada near Toronto.
