Rebecca Fletcher enters her sixth year as the head volleyball coach at Frostburg State University in the fall of 2016.
Fletcher has guided the Bobcats to a total of 57 wins to go along with four CAC Tournament appearances and the 2014 FSU Tournament Title. She continues the rebuilding of her program as her teams have increased their win totals in each of the last four years.
A year ago, she guided Frostburg to 17 victories, the most since 2010 and the program’s fourth appearance in the CAC Tournament during her tenure. FSU paced the CAC in total attacks (4,819) and digs (2,220), while finishing second in the league in digs per set (16.95), team assists (1,437), team attacks per set (36.79) and team kills (1,547).
Frostburg turned a corner in 2014 after finishing 13-17 overall while capturing the FSU Tournament Title. The Bobcats, who won seven-straight matches over the middle of the season, were fourth in the conference in digs (1,730), sixth in kills (1,116) and sixth in assists (1,023).
Fletcher’s 2013 Bobcat squad finished with seven wins and appeared in the CAC Tournament for the third-straight year. FSU snagged three big conference wins for a sixth-place finish in the CAC, while finishing sixth in the conference in blocks (157) and service aces (211).
In 2012, the Bobcats finished fifth in the CAC regular-season standings and appeared in the CAC Tournament for the second-consecutive year. Frostburg, which posted five wins on the season, finished fifth in the league in assists (919), kills (1,003), blocks (246) and digs (1,651).
In her first year at the helm, Fletcher led the Bobcats to 15 wins and a berth in the CAC Tournament. The Bobcats posted five wins in league action and were 4-1 at Bobcat Arena. FSU led the league in digs (2,326) and finished second in digs per game (17.62).
Fletcher joined the Frostburg coaching staff after a four-year stint as both the head men’s and women’s volleyball coach at the State University of New York Institute of Technology (SUNYIT). Fletcher accomplished a lot in four years with the Wildcats, turning around a struggling women’s program while starting the men’s program from scratch in 2008.
On the women’s side, Fletcher led SUNYIT to three North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Tournament appearances and a pair of runner-up finishes in 2008 and 2009. She was named the league’s Coach of the Year in 2008 and won 61 total matches in the last three years.
For the men, Fletcher guided the team to five wins in its inaugural season in 2008 while in 2010, the men’s squad led the nation in team and individual digs. This spring, the Wildcats made their first postseason appearance in the program’s brief history.
In 2009, Fletcher was honored by the AVCA as one of thirty up-and-coming coaches under the age of 30 years old in the sport of volleyball at all collegiate levels.
Prior to her time at SUNYIT, she served as a graduate assistant at Utica College for one year in 2006.
Fletcher graduated in 2006 with a bachelor of arts degree in biology and pre-health from Washington & Jefferson College. She was a three-time All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference selection and was named the league’s Freshman of the Year in 2002. In 2005, W&J won the PAC Tournament title and advanced to the ECAC Tournament.
