Carrie Saunders

Carrie Saunders is entering her first year as a graduate assistant with the Frostburg State University women’s basketball team.

Saunders is a 2011 graduate of Shepherd University where she majored in communication and new media and minored in marketing. A member of the Dean’s List, Saunders was also a part of the Shepherd University women’s basketball team.

She finished her playing career at Shepherd ranked 14th on the school’s all-time scoring list. As a senior, she broke the record for three pointers made in a single season while also accomplishing a perfect game to give her the highest field goal percentage in Shepherd’s history for a single contest. Furthermore, Saunders is tied for a career single game free throw percentage at 100% scoring 12 for 12 from the line.

She is ranked second in field goals made and attempts during her career. As a junior and senior she was a recipient of the Coach’s Award while also being honored as a Sara Cree Distinguished Athlete in the 2010-2011 season.

As a team, Shepherd went to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen and was ranked in the top 25 when Saunders was a freshman. Additionally in the 2007-2008 season, the Rams were ranked fifth in the East Region and were WVIAC Champions.

Prior to her time at FSU she worked at Monacan High School as the women’s assistant basketball coach. During her summers she has worked at the Atlantic Coast Athletic Club and the Chesterfield County Leadership Institute.

Saunders is currently pursuing her masters of education at Frostburg State University.
