Shane Brookshire

Shane Brookshire enters his second year as the head coach of the Frostburg State men's and women's track & field and cross country teams in 2020-21.

In his first year, Brookshire led the Bobcat track & field and cross country squads to highly successful first seasons at the NCAA Division II level. Despite the spring outdoor season being cut short, the Bobcat track & field teams burst on the scene during the indoor season.

The men finished in fourth place at the MEC Indoor Championships and the women took home ninth, despite not having a returning athlete from the previous season. John Kerns was named the MEC Male Field Athlete of the Year after winning the weight throw (17.40m) and taking third in the shot put (15.13m). Mike Belcher, Jacob Rickards, Jaydon Morley, Nicholas Richardson and Clayton Washington each captured All-MEC awards, while Richardson set the 60-meter dash school record four times throughout the indoor season.

The Bobcat women were powered by Makayla Westry as she broke the school record in the weight throw at the MECs with a distance of 14.84 meters. Morgan Mathews took home ninth place of 13 competitors in the pentathlon with personal-best 2,432 points.

The men’s cross country team posted four top-10 finishes in six meets with third place at Hood and a fifth-place showing at the Mountain East Conference Championships. Braxton Clark finished in 20th place at the MECs and earned Second Team All-MEC honors.

From 2014-2019, Brookshire served as the head women's cross country and track coach at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Under his tutelage, the Bulldog programs grew tremendously in competition and in the classroom. Brookshire's cross country teams won three United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic awards, while his track & field teams captured the same honor in back-to-back years.

In terms of competition, 28 of Brookshire's student-athletes earned All-Conference awards and he helped four participants to Second Team All-Great American Conference honors.

In 2015, Brookshire received his USTFCCCA Endurance Specialist Certification, while in 2018, he added his USTFCCCA Throwing Events and Strength & Conditioning Specialist certification. Following his first year at FSU in the summer of 2020, Brookshire became  a USTFCCCA Sprints/Hurdles/Relays Specialist.

Prior to his head coaching role, Brookshire was an assistant cross country coach at SWOSU and he also had assistant coaching roles at San Jose State University, Bemidji State University and Escalon High School.

As a student-athlete, Brookshire had a successful five-year career in cross country and track & field at California State University Stanislaus where he helped his cross country team to a second place finish in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) in 2007.

Brookshire graduated from Cal State, Stanislaus with his bachelor's degree in physical education in 2010 and he earned his master's degree in sports management from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 2014.
