Frostburg State Senior Woman Administrator Crystal Redinger announced recently that Shane Brookshire will become the newest member of the Bobcat coaching staff as he will become the school's head men's and women's track & field and cross country coach.

For the last five years, Brookshire has served as the head women's cross country and track coach at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

"I'm grateful and thrilled to be the next Head Cross Country/Track & Field Coach at Frostburg State University," said Brookshire. "I want to thank Athletic Director Troy Dell, Senior Woman Administrator Crystal Redinger and the search committee for this amazing opportunity. It will be an honor to help usher in the Division II era at Frostburg State."

Under his tutelage, the Bulldog programs have grown tremendously in competition and in the classroom. Brookshire's cross country teams have won three United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic awards, while his track & field teams have captured the same honor in back-to-back years.

In terms of competition, 28 of Brookshire's student-athletes earned All-Conference awards and he has helped four participants to Second Team All-Great American Conference honors.

In 2015, Brookshire received his USTFCCCA Endurance Specialist Certification, while in 2018, he added his USTFCCCA Throwing Events and Strength & Conditioning Specialist certification.

"I also want to thank Southwestern Oklahoma State University and Athletic Director Todd Thurman for my time at SWOSU," added Brookshire. "Thank you to the cross country/track coaches of the Great American Conference as they were a fantastic group of individuals to coach alongside. Thank you to my great support system of people around me for encouraging me through this process. I am looking forward to this upcoming season and leading the Bobcats to great success in the Mountain East Conference."

Prior to his head coaching role, Brookshire was an assistant cross country coach at SWOSU and he also had assistant coaching roles at San Jose State University, Bemidji State University and Escalon High School.
As a student-athlete, Brookshire had a successful five-year career in cross country and track & field at California State University Stanislaus where he helped his cross country team to a second place finish in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) in 2007.

Brookshire graduated from Cal State, Stanislaus with his bachelor's degree in physical education in 2010 and he earned his master's degree in sports management from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 2014.
