Shawn Magginson is in his third season as a Frostburg assistant coach in 2020 and will work with the defensive line/ends.
A year ago, FSU finished sixth in the MEC in total defense (355.4) and second with 37 sacks. Two of Magginson's lineman earned All-MEC honors and the duo totaled 34.5 tackles for loss with 19.5 sacks.
In 2018, the Bobcats finished 39th in the country in total defense (287.9), 15th in team tackles for loss (8.7), 50th in scoring defense (18.4), 19th in team sacks (3.45) and fifth in third-down conversion defense (.254). The Bobcats hosted two NCAA Playoff games and finished 10-1 overall following a perfect 9-0 regular season.
Magginson was a four-year player for the Bobcat football and he appeared in all 13 games and made two starts as a senior. He finished fourth on the team with 46 tackles, including four tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He also added one interception, one forced and one recovered fumble.
Magginson made a season-high eight tackles with one forced fumble in the Bobcats’ 14-7 double-overtime win over Salisbury in the Regents Cup.
Frostburg finished the ‘17 season ranked 16th in the nation in total defense (265.6). The Bobcats won a school record 11 games and advanced to the NCAA Playoff quarterfinals.
