Anthony Williams is entering his first season as the head coach of the Frostburg State baseball team in 2020.
Williams is the 13th head coach in the 83–year history of the Bobcat baseball program, and was part of the FSU coaching staff during the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
For the past three seasons, Williams served as the head coach at Division-II Clarion University of Pennsylvania. Williams led the Golden Eagles to 19 wins in 2019, the second-highest win total in the school’s history and the best Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) finish in 14 years. Under his tutelage, two players earned All-PSAC honors in the 2019 season.
In total, Williams collected 53 wins at Clarion. Off the field, he also improved the team GPA from 2.7 in his first year to 3.15. He increased donor and alumni engagements, significantly improved the baseball scholarship budget and annually fundraised over $20,000.
Prior to his stint at Clarion, Williams was the head coach at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. During his five-year tenure, he led the Bobcats to their first winning season in program history in 2012, and set new wins records in the 2014 and 2015 seasons as well. Williams coached the team to five-consecutive conference tournament appearances, including a trip to the AMCC championship game in 2014. Williams left Pitt-Greensburg as the winningest coach in the program’s history, and earned his 100th career win on April 16th, 2016.
Williams also has experience as the manager of the Fayetteville SwampDogs of the Coastal Plain League, a collegiate summer league that features some of the top college players from around the country. He was at the helm of the SwampDogs in 2016, a year where he coached two NCAA Division I National Champion players and three MLB draft picks.
From 2011-2015, he was also part of the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Video Advance Scouting Department for five seasons, helping prepare scouting reports and video for the club.
Williams served as the assistant baseball coach at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 2010-11. While with UMBC, he was the infield and first base coach and specialized in speed training, base running and infield play.
During his two-year stint with Frostburg State in 2009-10, The Bobcats finished the two seasons with a combined 57-29 record, including a 2010 AMCC Regular Season Championship after posting 32 wins. While a graduate assistant at FSU, served as the Bobcats’ recruiting coordinator as well as the team’s hitting and infield coach.
A native of Pasadena, Maryland, Williams earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management from Slippery Rock, where he was also a varsity baseball player. He earned his Master of Business Administration from FSU in 2010.
