WHEELING, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Volleyball team fell to Wheeling 3-0 on the road Tuesday evening.
 
WU started out the first set winning the first two points, with FSU getting on the board through freshman Gabrielle Morris' kill. The sides went back-and-forth through the early portions, as junior Emery Kuebler and senior Grace Yocham earned kills while the former and freshman Rhea Shetty tallied aces to hold a narrow 10-9 lead. Wheeling would take full control of the set from that point, taking five unanswered and 10 of the next 11 points to surge ahead 24-11. The Bobcats were able to net four in a row, as freshman Miranda Ball had a pair of scores from the service line while senior Maya Johnson and sophomore Alliyah McNair found the floor in making the final set score 25-15.
 
Frostburg looked to keep things close again early in the second frame, as McNair and sophomore Adele Evans had kills in a one-point deficit, however Wheeling went on a 6-1 run to go up 10-4. Freshman Kayla Greene, sophomore Pia White, Yocham, and McNair each had a score in trying to get back into the set but WU wasn't letting their lead diminish, holding a 16-10 advantage. The Cardinals then took five of the next six to take a double-digit lead, as Johnson, McNair, and senior Raegan Philips earned kills while Yocham joined the latter and Evans on a pair of blocks. Each of the final two points went to the hosts, who won the set 25-16.
 
Wheeling jumped ahead in the third set looking for the sweep with a 4-1 lead, though Evans, Johnson, and Greene found the floor in pulling back within one. WU tried to pull away on a few occasions but some offense through Yocham, McNair, and Evans kept the Bobcats within 12-10. As they had done in the previous two sets, the Cardinals used a mid-set run to gain the upper hand, taking seven of the next nine to lead 19-12. Evans put the team on her back looking to stay alive in the match, netting a trio of kills while joining Greene on a block to cut the deficit down to four. Wheeling would have no let-up, netting four of the final five points to complete the sweep with a 25-18 final.
 
McNair and Evans combined for 13 kills on the day, while Shetty recorded a team-high 14 assists. Ball led the defensive effort with 14 digs, as Philips, Yocham, and Evans all had two blocks apiece.
 
With the loss, FSU drops to 5-9 on the year, while WU improves to 9-6. The Bobcats will remain on the road as they travel to West Liberty on Friday, October 2 at 7 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
