FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Men's Soccer team had a 0-0 draw against Virginia State at home on Saturday evening. 

Prior to the match, FSU celebrated its four seniors in Brian Gomez, Gabe Jones, Anthony Diaz, and Hugo Portillo as they round out their Bobcat careers. 

After 10 minutes of play, FSU took the first shot of the night from Gomez, who bent a ball towards goal from the right wing that had to be gathered by Jake Taylor in goal. The Trojans got their first chance five minutes later but missed high. As the game became back-and-forth, Portillo tried to chip Taylor from outside the box, as he was just able to recover in time to make a stop, then a follow-up attempt was also stopped. At the other end, freshman goalkeeper Julian Quirk got his first action of the night, diving to the right to deflect a VSU shot.

Through the next eight minutes, Portillo and sophomore Christ Fopossi both took chances that missed the mark, as the game became much less fluid offensively. Freshman Abdallah Soulemana headed one over top the bar, then Diaz forced Taylor to dive to his right to keep it out of the net. The Bobcats ended the half with another corner kick and a shot from Soulemana going to the right to keep the score at 0-0 heading into the second half. 

Both sides sent efforts high early in the second half, then Taylor had to jump to save a shot off the foot of sophomore David Williams. After being played down the right side, sophomore Inzaghi Harmon missed high, then Soulemana planted a header wide off a corner. 15 minutes into the half, Fopossi had the majority of chances for the Bobcats, seeing one shot blocked, another saved by Taylor, and the third missing to the left. 

For the next 15 mintues, Virginia State tried to create chances of their own, however none of them reached Quirk, as each was blocked. Sophomore Frank Stare then tried to continue his impressive week with a pair of efforts, the first deflected off a defender and the second right into Taylor's chest. The next eight minutes passed with little from either side until Williams took the final shot of the night, which went high over the bar to end the match at a 0-0 tie.

The Bobcats held a 19-6 advantage in shots, with seven being on goal compared to the Trojans' one.

With the draw, FSU's record goes to 5-1-3 as VSU moves to 1-5-1 on the year. Frostburg will next go on the road Wednesday, September 30, as they head to Athens, WV. to face Concord at 4 PM. For more information, please visit frostburgsports.com.
