FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Volleyball Team fell 3-0 to Concord on Friday evening as FSU celebrated Youth Bobcat Day.

Despite the Bobcats taking the first point in set one, the Mountain Lions rallied with runs of three and four points to take a 7-3 lead. FSU fought back with kills from senior Grace Yocham and sophomore Adele Evans, plus a trio of errors and a service ace from freshman Miranda Ball to take a 9-7 advantage. CU then went on a 7-3 run to take back a two-point advantage before sophomore Alliyah McNair notched a pair of spikes and junior Emery Kuebler served an ace in a run that gave Frostburg an 18-15 lead. Concord fired back, taking the next seven points as they stunned the home crowd in going up 22-18. Freshman Gabrielle Morris and junior Allison Brown each notched kills in trying to keep Frostburg afloat, however it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit as the Mountain Lions took the opening frame 25-21. 

The sides were even at the very start of the second set until FSU put down eight of the next ten, with Morris grabbing the first kill followed by a pair from senior Maya Johnson, while sophomore Pia White put up service ace to lead 10-5. As they had done in the opening set, Concord flipped the script and found their rhythm, going on an 8-1 run to grab a two-point lead at 13-11. The Bobcats kept the pace for the next few points as McNair continued her tear on offense with a pair of scores, as Morris and Johnson each added another to their night, however amidst the run, a rotation error was called against Frostburg, taking off three points and giving one back to CU, allowing them to lead 19-16. In taking full advantage, the Mountain Lions ran away with the last six points to take set two 25-16. 

Looking to shake off the last set, McNair came out of the gate with back-to-back kills while a block from Morris allowed Frostburg to keep pace with Concord at 6-4 score. The momentum quickly turned in favor of the Mountain Lions, surging into a 13-4 advantage. The Bobcats kept chipping away despite the deficit, outscoring CU 10-4 to cut the deficit to three, with a pair of service aces from Kuebler in pulling within 17-14. With Concord taking the next four points, it looked like this would be an easy sweep, however FSU didn't give up easily, as an error and two Yocham kills fueled a late comeback effort to get within 23-21. The late stage wasn't quite completed, as the Mountain Lions ended things with kills either side of an error, taking set three 25-22 and the 3-0 match win. 

McNair led the Bobcats' attack with 13 kills, while Johnson and Yocham each added six. Kuebler notched 16 assists while Ball led the defense with 12 digs.

With the loss, FSU falls to 3-8 as CU's record improves to 9-6. Frostburg is back in action Tuesday, September 22, as they head to Pittsburgh, Pa. to face Point Park at 7 PM. For more information, please visit frostburgsports.com.
