FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Lacrosse team snagged the 10-9 overtime win over Jefferson on Sunday evening in Bobcat Stadium.
Â
Frostburg started off with the ball, with sophomore Abbey Warner picking up the draw control. Senior Kerri Hayes received the first caused turnover of the day, as Jefferson coughed up the ball on their first attempt at offense. Sophomore Gianna Leonardi sent in the first shot of the game in response, as the Rams stood in the way. The Bobcats took two more CT's on the defensive side, as junior Neila Haney knotted a caused turnover, and fed junior Daniella Boss for the first score of the game and a 1-0 FSU lead. Jefferson finally set up their first attempt at goal, with senior Nicole Gray racking up her first save. Haney fired away two more looks at goal, as Gray stood in the way of another shot from the Rams, as the game remained 1-0 under the seven minute mark. Junior Jessie Bare was given a CT on the other end, before Jefferson took advantage of a good clear attempt, slicing in their first goal of the day on a free position set up. The Rams took two more tries at goal in the next few minutes, with Gray seeing another save, as Boss gave FSU back their lead with her second goal, this time off a free position. Haney and graduate Camden DeMaio worked quickly with a minute left in the first, both tallying a goal to end the quarter with the Bobcats in front 4-1.Â

The fourth quarter started with it being all Jefferson, as the Rams knotted the draw control and the first goal of the period to cut their deficit in half. Gray stood in the way of the Ram's next attempt, but Jefferson was able to get another one by just two minutes later to see the game at 8-5. DeMaio ripped the first shot of the quarter for Frostburg but was again denied by the goalie. Kelly then sparked some momentum for FSU, earning a CT and a ground ball on the defensive end and sprinting all the way down field to slice one in the back of the net. Both teams saw a slow four minutes, before Jefferson rallied for three goals in three minutes to get within one with 3:39 left in regulation. Now with a 9-8 game, Frostburg still struggled to see an attempt on offense, as both teams swapped turnovers. The Bobcats coughed up one more turnover, as the Rams set up with the ball, tying the game at 9-9 with 31 seconds left on the clock. Jefferson took the final shot of regulation, with FSU's defense coming up with a big block to send the game into overtime.Â
Â
With the golden goal rule, Frostburg looked to work quickly yet safely. Haney recorded the draw control to open up the period, as DeMaio fired a shot high and Hayes found her shot blocked. Junior Emily Lamoreaux regained possession for FSU off the blocked shot, giving the Bobcats another opportunity a goal. With almost a minute gone in overtime, Hayes was named the hero, firing a shot from the middle that would find the back of the net, allowing FSU to take the 10-9 victory.Â
