ATHENS, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Women's Basketball team fell on the road 62-53 to Concord on Wednesday.
 
CU began the game strong defensively, holding the Bobcats without a field goal for the first four minutes. FSU's only points came from a pair of free throws by redshirt sophomore Mandy Roman, while four jumpers gave the Mountain Lions an 8-2 advantage. A steal and layup by sophomore Julie Spinelli was immediately followed by an offensive rebound and assist by classmate Ayla Hileman to freshman Ella Sabatos to pull within two at the midway point of the period. It took three minutes for either side to find another point, as Concord made a lay-in before redshirt sophomore Riley Nelson netted back-to-back jumpers to tie the game at 10 apiece. CU ended the quarter on a high, getting a layup and a couple freebies to head into the second up 14-10.
 
Spinelli began the next frame by getting to the line to get within a possession, but a three and a split trip by the Mountain Lions kept them ahead by six. Junior Jenna Muha got a putback to fall while Hileman got into the lane for a make, however Concord answered with a three before freshman Zaria Gaskins made one of two at the stripe for a 22-17 game at the five-minute mark. CU found their offensive rhythm for the remainder of the half, going on a 12-4 run as Muha provided the only Frostburg offense on a pair of baskets in the final three minutes, giving the visitors a 34-21 lead.
 
Muha, Spinelli, and Roman each had buckets to start the third with an offensive flurry, however the Mountain Lions were there each step of the way to maintain an 11-point advantage. Roman then got to the free throw line while Muha netted on a pair of possessions, as the Bobcat defense held Concord to just one field goal over a near-five-minute stretch to get within 40-33. CU was able to score lay-ins either side of Spinelli's trip to the line, taking a 44-35 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
A quick 6-2 run in the first two minutes put the hosts up by 13, however the next couple minutes belonged to FSU. Muha got to the line to convert before being found under the rim by sophomore Laekyn Flinn, while Gaskins ripped down a rebound and went end-to-end before Spinelli knocked down a pair at the stripe to suddenly pull within 50-45. The offense dried up from that point, however, as it took another three minutes before the next Bobcat points, while Concord made a layup followed by a three to extend the lead back up to 10. Still Frostburg had some fight, as Spinelli converted another couple at the stripe while Hileman knocked down from deep for a 55-50 score with two minutes to go. The Mountain Lions kept FSU off the board on a pair of offensive trips while converting three of four free throws before redshirt freshman Sophie Nichols hit a three in hopes of getting a late miracle down 58-53. CU wouldn't miss any of their final four at the line, coming away with the 62-53 final.
 
Muha led the Bobcats with her second consecutive double-double, netting 16 points and 10 boards, as Spinelli was her lone teammate in double-digit scoring at 12.
 
With the loss, Frostburg drops to 4-5 on the year, while Concord improves to 6-3. FSU will return to Bobcat Arena on Saturday, December 13 to face Glenville State at 2 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
