LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Frostburg State Women's Basketball team fell on the road to Lock Haven 86-59 on Saturday afternoon.
 
LHU began the game with a number of defensive stands, keeping the Bobcats off the board for nearly three minutes while building a 6-0 advantage. Sophomore Ayla Hileman got the first bucket for FSU on a three, while redshirt sophomore Mandy Roman followed with another to immediately get within 7-6. The Bald Eagles netted a pair of layups either side of freshman Zaria Gaskins also hitting from range to lead 11-9 at the midway point of the quarter. Neither side registered a point for the next two minutes, until redshirt freshman Sophie Nichols hit a triple that gave Frostburg their first lead at 12-11, though Lock Haven immediately answered with one of their own. LHU ended the quarter with some momentum, as they got to the free throw line and hit a late three, as the Bobcats managed just one at the charity stripe, trailing 19-13.
 
Hileman got FSU going to start the second frame, getting to the bucket twice off assists from redshirt sophomore Riley Nelson, converting an and-one in the process to pull within 19-18. A split trip to the line gave the Eagles their first point of the quarter after two minutes, to which Nelson again turned provider, finding Roman under the rim for a 20-20 tie. Sophomore Laekyn Flinn put Frostburg ahead briefly on a pair of freebies, however Lock Haven turned up their offense from there. Within two minutes, the hosts hit a layup, jumper, and three to go up by five, then an and-one put them ahead 30-22 with five minutes to go.
 
Junior Jenna Muha broke a three-minute Bobcat scoring drought with a free throw, but LHU put up five in a row to grow their advantage to double-digits. The Bald Eagles continued to churn out points, answering another Muha bucket with a pair of lay-ins and a trey, moving ahead 42-25. Flinn and Nichols would net a pair of late baskets for FSU, as Lock Haven converted another trip to the line followed by yet another deep make to take a 47-29 advantage into the halftime break.
 
LHU's defense continued to make life difficult for Frostburg, as it took over three minutes to find a basket, with Nelson and Hileman finding freshman Ella Sabatos for a pair of layups with the hosts holding a 54-33 lead. Nelson would net the next Bobcat bucket on a putback, followed by a pair of Sabatos free throws and Flinn converting an and-one to make things 60-40. The Bald Eagles grew the lead to as large as 25, with Sabatos and freshman Raegan Ogle getting a pair of late lay-ins to make things 66-44 after three.
 
Lock Haven came out with the first four points of the final period, with sophomore Julie Spinelli's three getting the Bobcats going, followed by an and-one 90 seconds later. LHU continued to roll on offense, with Spinelli and Nichols driving the Frostburg attack on the other end. Ogle and freshman Josie Cross put in the final Frostburg points, the latter scoring the first of her collegiate career, as the Bald Eagles came away with the 86-59 final.
 
Five players tied for the team lead in scoring, with Spinelli, Hileman, Sabatos, Nichols, and Flinn all recording eight. Nelson dished out a team-high five assists to go with a pair of steals.
 
With the loss, Frostburg drops to 1-3 on the year, while Lock Haven improves to 2-2. FSU reutrns to Bobcat Arena on Monday, November 24 to face District of Columbia at 5:30 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
