#2 Golden Eagles Score Three in Second Half to Defeat Men's Soccer on Senior Day

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Men's Soccer team dropped their regular season home finale 3-0 to second-ranked Charleston (WV) on Sunday afternoon.

Prior to the contest, FSU honored its nine seniors in Brennan Moore, Caleb Dell, Laki Psallidas, Andre Tenorio, Abdur-Rahman Neama, Alex Flores, Zach Harpel, Alex Retzos, and Firas Abdelgadir as they round out their Bobcat careers.

The Golden Eagles controlled possession over the first 22 minutes, but were only able to test Moore on one occasion, with a deflected shot from outside the box turning right into him. Five of their efforts were off target, while another was blocked by the Frostburg defense. FSU found their footing midway through the half, as Harpel had an acrobatic effort go wide, while junior Carlos Quintero Rivas motored down the right wing, sending a ball towards goal that was gathered by Konstantinos Parisis.

As the first half wound down, the Bobcats earned three consecutive corners, but weren't able to get a shot from them. UC nearly got their opener in the final seconds, as Franco Tradatti caught the ball wall on a volley but could only send it over the bar, ending the frame in a 0-0 tie.

Charleston regained control to start the second half, winning a corner five minutes in, where after the first ball was cleared to the 18, Isacco Tomelleri curled a shot into the far post for a 1-0 lead. The Golden Eagles then had an effort blocked and another go over the bar, while Frostburg got one shot away on a counter-attack from Neama that went high and wide.

With the clock ticking inside the final 20, UC doubled their advantage, as Jack Kay was played through on goal by Hugo Prats Deusdad, slotting home to go up 2-0. A third nearly went in off a corner 10 minutes later, but freshman Dom Good was well-placed on the line to make the defensive stop.

FSU had their best chance of the game with five minutes left, as sophomore Hugo Portillo made a surging run down the right wing and crossed to the back post, where Harpel was waiting, but shot straight at Parisis. The Golden Eagles capitalized a minute and a half later, this time putting a corner home, with Tradatti finding the head of Jack Allan for the 3-0 final.

Charleston had a 15-4 advantage in shots, with five on target to the Bobcats' two.

With the loss, Frostburg ends their regular season at 9-7-1, while UC improves to 16-0-1. FSU will host an MEC Tournament game on Sunday, November 10, with their seeding and opponent yet to be determined. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
