Baseball Drops Road Game to Seton Hill

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Frostburg State Baseball team dropped their nine-inning midweek road game to the Seton Hill Griffins by a score of 9-1 on Tuesday afternoon.

Taking on a ranked opponent, Frostburg was able to strike and get on the board first, as junior Ethan Kiple smacked a ball over the left field fence for a solo shot and his 100th career hit at FSU, allowing the Bobcats to command an early 1-0 lead.  Sophomore Hayden Ford faced the first three batters of the game for the Griffins with ease, before Seton Hill took the lead in the second as Braden Durham homered down the left field line, bringing himself and Owen Sabol around the bases for a score of 2-1. Soon after, Jared Dowey singled and moved to third on a single from Max Mandler, as Dowey scored on an RBI groundout from Joe Fiedor, for a 3-1 lead.

The Griffins added two more runs in the third inning, as Vincenzo Rauso was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and Jack Oberdorf walked, both proceeding to steal a base, with Rauso scoring on a throwing error by the Bobcats. Oberdorf went on to score when Durham doubled, as Seton Hill secured a 5-1 lead after three. Both teams stayed hitless and scoreless in the fourth, before sophomore Randy Steen ripped a single in the fifth, but was left stranded on base. Seton Hill found their bats again in their at-bat of the inning, adding three more runs to their lead.

Frostburg recorded two hits in the top of the sixth, with sophomore Danny Estrada recording a single and sophomore Mikey Guy earning himself a double, but the Bobcats couldn't anything else, leaving runners stranded once more.  Junior Justin Jimenez recorded a double in the top of the eighth, FSU's last hit of the day, as the Griffins added one more run in the bottom of the eighth, allowing Frostburg to fall by a final of 9-1.

Six Bobcats recorded hits on the day, with Kiple being credited with the lone RBI and run for FSU.

With the loss, Frostburg drops to an overall record of 20-17 while Seton Hill improves to an overall record of 29-8.  The Bobcats are back in action on Saturday, April 22 at 1PM as they host Alderson Broaddus in a two-day four-game series. For more information, visit frostburgsports.com.
