Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Balanced Effort Gives Women's Lacrosse Victory Over Senators

ELKINS, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Women's Lacrosse Team defeated Davis and Elkins on the road Thursday evening by a final score of 21-5.

Early in the first quarter, FSU was first to find the back of the net, as freshman Neila Haney scored after a turnover caused by fellow freshman Jenna Jenkins. D&E tied up the score 1-1 after a goal by Emelia Johnson in a fairly low-scoring start to the contest. Frostburg would change that, dominating the rest of the quarter and scoring the next eight goals. Senior Lilly Stephens got the game flowing with an assist from senior Cammie Schniewind. Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Dickey made a huge save and started the successful clear attempt for FSU, allowing them to make the score 3-1 on a goal from freshman Dahlia Trippel. Junior Anna Kearney and sophomore Kerri Hayes scored goals within seconds apart, putting the Bobcats up 5-1. After having a few assists in the game, Schniedwind scored a goal of her own, with Stephens making it a quick pair just after. Hayes and Stephens both added to their totals in the final two and a half minutes to end the frame up 9-1.

There were no goals scored until the fourth minute of the second quarter, when junior Camden DeMaio put the Bobcats in double digits. Stephens went for a another goal, then freshman Kristina Fardales would see her first goal of the game in the eighth minute of the period from another assist by Schniedwind. Sharing the love, sophomre Krissy Milburn put the Bobcats up 13-1 from an assist by classmate Brittyn Leonard. D&E played solid defense for the next four minutes as there were no goals scored until 47 seconds left in the half, when Leonard scored another one to put FSU ahead 14-1, while the defense shut the Senators out for the quarter.

D&E came out of halftime with the first goal by Chloe Travelstead, with Ari Hinton making it back-to-back scores for a 14-3 deficit. Hayes earned a free position and capitalized off of it, as did sophomore Julia Badolato putting it in the back on the net to go up 16-3. After successful clear attempts and turnovers by both teams, Frostburg was able gain possession and set up a play for Haney, who scored off a feed from DeMaio. Badolato quickly added to the score, but in the last few seconds of the quarter, Hinton got another one for the Senators, ending the period with FSU ahead 18-5.

The fourth quarter was dominated by the Bobcats, scoring three more goals from Kearney and Haney, with the defense again not allowing a goal to end the game with a 21-5 victory.

Haney and Stephens both scored four goals, with Hayes also tacking on a hat trick and Schniedwind dishing out a game-high three assists. Sophomore Delaney Devers and freshman Isabelle Kelly led the defensive effort, combining for three caused turnovers and three groundballs.

With the conclusion of this game FSU, moves to 6-6 while D&E falls to 2-10 on the year. The Bobcats are back in action on Sunday, April 16 as they take on Alderson Broaddus at home for a 1pm start. For more information visit frostburgsports.com.
