GAME NOTES

-LAST TIME OUT FOR FROSTBURG STATE

-Frostburg State returns to action after a victory on regional television over West Virginia State on October 19. The Bobcats came to play under the home lights, posting a touchdown on the very first drive of the contest with a 65 yard touchdown pass. FSU would see the scoring taper off a bit heading into the second quarter, where FSU would rattle off 14 unanswered points, and the Bobcats would take a 21-7 lead into the locker room. A score in the fourth from the Yellow Jackets would bring the game to 21-14, but a late rushing TD would seal the prime time victory for the Bobcats, 28-14.

-SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
-The Golden Eagles suffered their first defeat of 2023 last week, after visiting the upstart Fairmont State Fighting Falcons.  In a game that featured 726 yards of combined total offense from both sides, the Golden Eagles could not escape their mistakes on the offensive side of the football. Three interceptions from UCWV lead to a scramble for the side throughout the afternoon. Fairmont State would be gifted a chance to drive for a game winning touchdown, crossing the plain with just 10 seconds left to take the lead 33-30. UCWV had not lost since their season finale in 2022 on November 12, in a 42-35 loss to West Virginia State.

-FROSTBURG STATE HEAD COACH
-Eric Wagoner enters his second season as head coach of the Football program, having spent the previous two seasons as the team's defensive coordinator. Wagoner came to Frostburg after serving on the coaching staff at the University of Saint Francis in Indiana for the last 12 years, having been the program's DC for seven seasons. He helped the Cougars win NAIA National Championships in 2016 & 2017 and he was named the 2016 Football Scoop NAIA Coordinator of the Year. In 2016, his defensive squad finished second in the country in scoring (18.4) and second in rushing defense (101.0 ypg). In '17, his Cougar defensive squad led the nation in scoring defense (17.2) and finished first in both total defense (298.0) and rushing defense (92.0). In 2018, he helped the defense to second in NAIA in rushing defense (99.6). Wagoner also served as the Cougars' special team's coordinator and his unit led the Mid State Football Association in kick returns five times in a seven-year stretch. Those return groups also returned eight kicks for TDs.

-CHARLESTON (WV) HEAD COACH
-Quinn Sanders took over the UCWV program on March 1, 2022 after the departure of previous HC Pat Kirkland for a Special Teams Coordinator position at FCS Jacksonville State. Sanders has been with the program since Spring 2021, where he would take over as the Offensive Coordinator for a squad that would go on to win the MEC South Division. Prior to this, Sanders would also work with the Wide Receivers for UCWV beginning in 2015 after having a short stint as an intern with the Golden Eagles working with the Quarterbacks and Running backs.

 -FORMIDABLE FOE
   - The Charleston Golden Eagles come into play this weekend with the fifth ranked total offense in the country. In addition to a high flying offense, UCWV sits as seventh best rushing offense and a seventh rated team passing efficiency.

 -SHUT DOWN THE PASS
  - The Bobcats own the third best team passing efficiency defense rating coming into play this weekend. The 83.51 measurement also places them at first in the MEC. The 12 pick total also ranks FSU within the top 15 for most interceptions in the country.

-LOCKING IT DOWN
   - FSU's sophomore DB Anthony Smith currently ranks fifth in the country in interceptions per game (0.7 value). Smith has recorded four interceptions this season, which also stands as the team lead and is second in the MEC.
