Nebiolo, Hooper Help Women's Swimming Sweep Senators, Vulcans

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Frostburg State Women's Swimming team swept both California (Pa.) and Davis & Elkins in their Saturday tri-meet.

The Bobcats faced an early deficit in the meet having placed third in the opening 200-yard medley relay, but quickly rebounded off a win by junior Lydia Nebiolo in the 1000-yard freestyle at 10:58.95.

She also would lead the charge in a 1-2-3 FSU sweep in the 200-yard back stroke at 2:14.08, followed by freshman Jayme Meadows (2:19.02) and sophomore Gabriela Betancourt (2:20.79). Junior Kendall Hooper added a pair of wins herself in the 200-yard IM (2:19.59) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:16.66).

Despite not adding onto the individual win total, Frostburg maintained a steady presence in the top three of nearly every event. Meadows (2:04.60) and freshman Rachel Rickabaugh (2:05.54) placed second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard free, as did the latter (5:40.55) and junior Tiernan Taggart (5:37.61) in the 500-yard free.

Senior Liz Perry turned in a couple fine performances in the sprints, placing second in the 100-yard free (57.14) with junior Amaya Burke coming third (58.13), then finishing third (25.82) just behind freshman Gabriella Douglas (25.54) in the 50-yard free. Junior Natasha Paciello tacked on a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:39.44 to round out the individual performances.

FSU ended the meet on a high, as the team of Douglas, Hooper, Nebiolo, and Perry won the 200-yard free relay in 1:42.09.

With the sweep, the women improve to 4-0 on the season. Frostburg returns to the pool on Saturday, October 28 at 1 p.m. for their home opener against Fairmont State in Bobcat Natatorium. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
