Baseball Eliminated From MEC Tournament

BECKLEY, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Baseball team was eliminated on day three of the 2022 MEC Tournament by the Glenville State Pioneers by a score of 8-7.

Frostburg State served as the away team in the elimination matchup between the clubs who previously played just two days prior in opening round play. Glenville State would take a commanding 5-0 lead through three innings, and another Bobcat comeback bid would begin with freshman Danny Estrada's eighth home run of the year, making it 5-1. Two innings later, the Bobcat offense would explode for five runs. After the bases would load full of Bobcats with a 6-2 score, redshirt sophomore AJ Campbell would step to the plate with a chance to make an impact. Campbell would connect on his sixth home run of the season, clearing the bases with a grand slam making the score 6-6.

Moving into the seventh, the Pioneers would strike back with a two-run home run to regain the lead at 8-6. Things would quiet down until the ninth inning, where the Bobcats would eventually come up short. Once again the bases would be loaded, and junior Ethan Kiple would bring home a run by putting a ball in play to force a fielder's choice scoring Estrada who stood at third making it 8-7. After a groundout to bring the Bobcats to their final out remaining, Campbell would step up tp the plate with the tying run at third and the go-ahead run at second. Campbell would strike out swinging to end the comeback bid, Glenville State would pick up the victory.

Frostburg State would finish the season with a record of 33-17, and Glenville State would improve to 33-16 and advance to another elimination game against Concord which began following the conclusion of this contest. The season featured the Bobcats making their first ever appearance at the MEC Tournament, a first ever North Divison Title which was shared with Fairmont State, and the second highest program win total since 2015 when FSU would win 45 games on the way to the Divison III World Series.
