Baseball Completes Four-Game Sweep of Alderson Broaddus

FROSTBURG, Md.- The Frostburg State Baseball team completed their four-game series sweep of Alderson Broaddus after downing the Battlers 6-0 and 7-6 on Tuesday afternoon in a doubleheader at Bob Wells Field.

Junior Ethan Kiple came ready to play as he did in the first two games of the series, as he launched his second first inning home run of the series way over the wall in center to give the Bobcats an early 2-0 lead. Frostburg would add another in the first as Jack Lawrence legged out a triple and then would score on a wild pitch to take the lead to 3-0.

That's all the run support sophomore Ben Vok would need, as he carved up the Battlers lineup to the tune of five innings of one-hit baseball while fanning eight. Vok's dominant performance pushed his record to 2-1 on the season.

Kiple wasn't done at the plate, as he lifted another ball out over the center-field fence in his second at-bat for a two homer day. Sophomore Aidan Duda would drive in senior Nick Benitez in the fifth and then junior pinch-runner Arrone Dutton would steal third and score on an error in the sixth to seal the game 6-0.

The consistent arms of sophomore Jarek Bacon and junior Max Proctor would shut the door as they both threw an inning of perfect baseball in relief of Vok. Kiple went 3-4 at the plate with three RBI and Lawrence would contribute two hits in the winning effort.

Game two went a little differently, as it would be a back-and-forth affair, but FSU once again struck first, as sophomore Chase O'Dell would get started by belting his third home run of the year over the center field fence to put the Bobcats up 1-0 in the second. The Battlers would put up a three-spot off sophomore starter Nick Trey in the bottom of the second to get their first lead of the day at 3-1. Frostburg would even the score up in the third as Lawrence would contribute an RBI single and freshman Jacob Stretch would reach on an error to drive in Lawrence.
After a Battlers home run in the third put them up 4-3, the Bobcats would answer with three in the fourth, with a leadoff double from junior Hayden McLaughlin, then was driven in after a stand-up triple by senior Josh Netterville. Junior Jack Maruskin would double off the the leg of the Battler third basemen to drive in Netterville and then would score on a Kiple ground ball to push the Frostburg lead to 6-4.

The Battlers would not quit as they scored a run in the fourth and again the sixth to even the game up at 6-6 going into the final inning.

Senior Bryce Jackson would do what he does best, launching a lead-off home run into Bobcat Stadium in right field to give the Bobcats a 7-6 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.
Stretch would come back out on the mound for his second inning of work and shut down the AB offense to lock down the victory for the Bobcats 7-6, earning his first colligate victory in relief to push his record to 1-1 on the year. Jackson and O'Dell would each contribute two hits and McLaughlin reached base in all three of his plate appearances.

With the wins, Frostburg moves to 23-7 on the season and Alderson Broaddus drops to 3-24. The Bobcats will be back in action on Friday, April 15 as they travel to Wheeling to take on the Cardinals in a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. For more information on Bobcat sports, visit www.frostburgsports.com
