CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Basketball traveled to Charleston for a Saturday afternoon matchup, falling 104-64.
The Bobcats came out with a quick start off the jump with junior Jason Murphy dropping in a hook shot to get on the board with the first points of the afternoon. Junior Tairell Fletcher looked to get the Frostburg offense going, knocking down a three pointer from distance and converting on another three-point opportunity, but UC's offense would quickly get going with a lead of 33-13 midway through the first half.
Frostburg looked to cut the Golden Eagles lead towards the end of the half as graduate Bo Schene and Flether knocked down back-to-back shots. Graduate Vincent Smalls went on to drop in a pair of layups, bringing the score to 43-24 Golden Eagles, who seemed as if they couldn't miss from the field, taking a 53-33 lead into the half.
The Bobcats got on the board first in the second half with a Murphy layup one minute in. Graduate Juston Bailey would show off his range, getting on the board for his first threepointer of the game. Fletcher would continue to drive to the basket through the Golden Eagle defense, dropping in two layups midway through the second to bring the score to 68-48. Senior Torrin Stephens would get himself on the board, attacking the Golden Eagles to score three layups, but the defense had no answers for the UC offense, with a final score of 104-64.
Fletcher led the Bobcats in scoring with 20 points on the afternoon, closely followed by Murphy who had 14 points. Senior Agyei Edwards led the team in rebounds, gathering seven, also adding seven points in his scoring.
With the loss, Frostburg falls to 3-5 on the season, while the Golden Eagles improve to 4-4. The Bobcats are back in action on Wednesday, December 7 as they travel to Glenville State to take on the Pioneers for a 7:30PM tip-off. Information and updates will be posted at frostburgsports.com.
