Women's Soccer Held to 2-2 Draw with Wheeling

WHEELING, W. Va. – The Frostburg State women's soccer team played Wheeling to a draw Saturday evening, finishing with a final score of 2-2.

The first pressure of the game was applied by the Cardinals, with two shots and a corner coming in the first six minutes. The Bobcats shifted the momentum to their side with three corners and shots on target from junior Lela Clark and sophomore Cat Smith, though both efforts were saved.

FSU broke through at the 18-minute mark when sophomore Caroline Burton took a shot that was saved and found the feet of junior Toni Fiocco-Mizer, who slotted home for the game's opening goal. Wheeling would even up the game 10 minutes later on a shot from distance that found its way to the back of the net for a 1-1 score. The Bobcats would take the lead again in the last minute of the first half, as Fiocco-Mizer stole a ball played out of the back and found freshman Morgan Mrizek making a run at goal, then calmly finished under the WU keeper for her first collegiate goal and a 2-1 lead.

The Cardinals found another equalizer in the 60th minute of the game, making the score 2-2. The Bobcats had four shots on goal from that point but couldn't break through. Billger came up with two important saves to keep things even in the final five minutes.

The result moves the Bobcats' record to 10-1-1 on the year, while the Cardinals go to 4-7-1. Frostburg will return to play when they host West Liberty on Wednesday, October 12 at 7:30 PM. For more information please go to frostburgsports.com.
