Men's Soccer Puts Six Past Concord in Massive Road Win

BECKLEY, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Soccer team traveled to take on Concord Wednesday afternoon, running away 6-2 winners in a dominant offensive display.

The Bobcats came out firing in the early minutes, forcing the Concord goalkeeper into a couple early saves and setting the tone. With just under five minutes gone, junior Alex Retzos floated a long free kick into the box, which was headed down by freshman Blake Hoskins straight into the path of junior Gage Adams, who calmly finished into the lower left corner of the goal. The Bobcats would waste no time in adding a second goal to the score sheet, as freshman Kevin Garcia-Torres strongly dribbled his way through the CU defense and blasted a shot into the left corner of the goal for a 2-0 lead just 16 minutes into the match.

Concord would get their first shot of the match in the 21st minute, forcing graduate keeper Parker Shugars to make his first save. Frostburg continued to fire on all cylinders, as sophomore Abdur-Rahman Neama weaved his way into a shooting position, finding a pinpoint shot for the third Bobcat goal of the match in the 28th minute. Frostburg would maintain their 3-0 lead going into halftime, outshooting the Mountain Lions 8-3.

FSU continued their momentum into the second half, as Garcia-Torres scored his second goal of the match just over three minutes into the second half, followed up by freshman Renzo Vargas, who got in on the scoring action in the 56th minute to make the score 5-0 Bobcats.

Concord would score their first goal of the match just two minutes later in a sign of resilience. Frostburg quickly responded, however, as Neama found the back of the net for a second time within five minutes for a 6-1 lead. The Mountain Lions would keep fighting to the very end of the match, firing their second goal of the match with under 10 minutes remaining, though the FSU offense was too much to handle in the end, as the match finished with a final score of 6-2 .

The Bobcats once again out-shot the Mountain Lions 15-5 in the second half. The six goals scored are the most goals FSU has had in a single match since an 8-0 win over Southern Virginia in 2018 and the most in a game since joining Division II.

With Wednesday's win, Frostburg moves to 3-5-4 on the year, while Concord falls to 2-7-2 on the season. The team will return to action on Saturday, October 8 as they travel to take on Wheeling for a 7:30PM kickoff. For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
