Bobcats Drop Opening Games of IUP Invitational

INDIAN, Pa. – The Frostburg State volleyball team opens the season with losses to Shepherd and Ohio Dominican at the IUP Invitational. The final scores were (29-27, 25-15, 25-5) and (25-21, 25-12, 25-21) respectively. 
 
 
Frostburg started their Fall 2021 season off going to the IUP Invitational where they faced Shepherd in the opening game. The Bobcats fell to the Rams in all three sets and had a chance to take the first set. Frostburg had 24 kills, three aces, eight blocks, 26 assists and 65 digs in the match 
 
The Bobcats were led by sophomore Beverly Braun with eight kills and 18 digs along with freshman AJ Thompson's six kills and three blocks. 
 
 
The second match of the day for Frostburg was against Ohio Dominican. The first point of the match for the Bobcats came on a kill from Braun and made the early score in the first set 1-3 FSU. The first set went back and forth until the Panthers went up six points mid set. Frostburg started pulling back when sophomore Laken Michael made the score 13-18 ODU. The Bobcats had a seven-point run after that to take their first lead of the set at 20-19. Momentum swung back to the Panthers and pushed them through to a first set win over the Bobcats 25-21. 
 
 
FSU sophomore Hayley Delor put the Bobcats on the board with an early kill to start the set. The Panthers jumped out ahead to a 14-6 lead. Frostburg came back with a three-point run and kill from junior Jackie Sterenberg.  After the push from the Bobcats ODU was able to take control of the set and win it 25-12. 
 
 
The Bobcats bounced back from the second set with a strong opening in the third. Freshman middle hitter AJ Thompson put Frostburg up 4-2. After the set was tied at six, Braun came through with a point to put the Bobcats back in the lead. The Panthers and Bobcats exchanged points for the rest of the set with FSUs final point coming from a kill by Michael making the score 21-22 ODU. The Panthers finished off the set with the final three points.
 
 
The Bobcats return to action September 3rd with games against Tusculum and IUP at 10 AM and 2 PM respectively. For up-to-date information on all Frostburg sports visit www.frostburgsports.com
