FROSTBURG, MD. – The Frostburg State softball team won both games against Glenville state Sunday afternoon. Frostburg took game one 3-2 and then the second game 12-0. The Bobcats had three homeruns on the day coming from junior Ava Gnibus, junior Brianna Powell and senior Aliyah Ramey.

The two wins on the day move the Bobcats to 18-7 on the season and gives the Pioneers a record of -27.

In the opening game sophomore Shawna Leonard took the circle for the Bobcats trying to win her seventh game in a row. Leonard started the first of striking out two Pioneers. The Pioneers got on the board first when they led off the second inning with a homerun making the score 1-0. The Bobcats threatened in the second with a senior Taylor McCarty double and Powell reaching base after being hit with only one out. The Pioneers got the Bobcats to fly out for the last two outs.

The Bobcats broke through in the second when Gnibus homered driving in first-year Sierra Sanderson and took the lead at 2-1.The game was then tied when the Pioneers plated a run in the sixth to tie the game at 2-2. The game remained tied going into the bottom of the seventh until back to back singles from Ramey and Powell. On the next at bat first-year Ryan Darling singled in the winning run for the Bobcats.

Leonard finished the game only giving up only three hits while having eight strikeouts to earn the victory and move to 9-2 on the year.

The ball went to first-year Sydney Theobald in the second game. The game remained tied until the bottom of the second when Powell hit a two-run homerun. Senior Kat Treff knocked in the next run on a single scoring junior Kennadie Batchelor and making the score 3-0. FSU added three more runs on a senior Sam Carver triple and finished of the second with a two-run blast from Ramey. After the big second inning the score was 8-0.

The Bobcats added five more runs in the third. The first of them came on a Treff single knocking in Sanderson. Carver earned another RBI when she was able to bring around Treff. McCarty then singled in Gnibus. The final run of the inning and game came on a Darling sacrifice fly making the score 12-0. The game ended after the top of the fifth when the Bobcats won by the mercy rule.
