SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Bobcats take double header at Notre Dame Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Shawna Leonard threw her fifth complete game shutout win of the season. Senior Taylor McCarty goes 5-7 on the day with a home run.
The Bobcats move to 13-6 on the year after the two wins while Notre Dame goes to 10-12 overall.
In the first game Leonard took the ball for Frostburg and worked through a first inning that did see a base runner get into scoring position that was stranded. The Bobcats were able to get on the board in the second inning when senior Aliyah Ramey, who singled earlier, was able to score on an infield error. Leonard continued the solid second for FSU by striking out two Falcons.
In the third the Bobcats added another run on a Ramey double that saw McCarty cross the plate. The next two innings for Leonard was able to face the minimum number of batters. Senior Sam Carver led of the fifth with a homer to left center now making the score 3-0. Ramey added to her day and the inning with a double that knocked in sophomore Brianna Powell and first-year Brianna Munday.
Frostburg added a couple of insurance runs in the seventh when McCarty and Ramey both had solo homeruns to put the Bobcats up 7-0.
In the second game Frostburg started the game with first-year Sydney Theobald in the circle. She was able to work out of two on no outs situation by getting a strikeout and then a nice play by Powell making an unassisted double play. The Bobcats got on the board first on a junior Ava Gnibus sacrifice fly that scored Senior Kat Treff.
FSU added two more runs in the fourth inning when first-year Ryann Darling singled to bring in Powell and then came around herself on a Treff single. The Falcons were able to get a run of their own in the fourth making the score 3-1.
Game one winning pitcher, Leonard came in to pitch the final three innings for the Bobcats to start the fifth. The Falcons added another run to bring the score within one at 3-2. Frostburg answered the Falcons run with a few runs of their own. Carver had a two RBI single down the line scoring Treff and Junior Kennadie Batchelor. In the next at-bat McCarty had a sacrifice fly to center that allowed Gnibus to score and make the score 6-2.
In the final inning of the day FSU added to their lead when Powell was able to score on a ball that got past the catcher. The final run for the Bobcats came on a fielders choice that allowed Darling to score. The Falcons were able to add one more run in the seventh to make the final score of the game 8-3.
