Frostburg Returns Favor with Road Win at Notre Dame (Ohio)

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's lacrosse evened the slate after losing to the Notre Dame (Ohio) Falcons earlier this season at home. The Bobcats traveled to Ohio Sunday afternoon and defeated the Falcons with a final score of 20-9. Senior Summer Cavey led Frostburg with five goals, three assists, and seven draw controls.
 
The win moves the Bobcats to 6-3 on the season, while the Falcons drop to 6-3.
 
Cavey started the scoring in the game, netting the first goal three minutes in. After the Falcons answered with a goal themselves, first-year Anna Kearney scored off an assist from sophomore Lilly Stephens to take a 2-1 lead. The hosts tied the game at 2-2 before senior Lindsay Kohlmann netted a goal off an assist from Cavey. Cavey tacked on another goal to increase the Bobcat lead to 4-2.
 
The Falcons scored three unanswered goals to take the lead at 5-4 with 12 minutes left in the first half. Kohlmann scored a free position goal to tie the game at 5-5. With nine minutes remaining, Notre Dame scored to take the lead at 6-5. Stephens scored on a free position shot before Kearney scored on a man-up goal off an assist from Cavey. The Falcons scored with ten seconds remaining in the half to tie the game at 7-7 going into halftime.
 
Frostburg came out in the second half scoring seven unanswered goals to take a massive 14-7 lead with 17 minutes remaining in the game. Kearney netted her third goal of the game before Stephens scored a free position goal. Sophomore Cammie Schniedwind scored an unassisted goal before Stephens netted another man-up goal off an assist from Cavey. Schniedwind scored again before Cavey and Kearney both netted a goal of their own.
 
The hosts picked up a goal to cut the deficit to six before Stephens scored another free position goal to make it 15-8. Notre Dame scored their final goal of the day before Frostburg finished the game out with five straight goals. Kearney added another goal while Cavey and Stephens both scored two more to earn the 20-9 win.
